Certified insulation materials and applicators
The President of the National Association of Insulation Companies (PSEM), Andreou Anargyros, speaks about the construction work on the present and the future of insulations in Greece, the level of Greek insulating products, the professionals involved in the subject, how property owners have to deal with the issue of insulation as well as for the contribution of home savings programs to the economy of the sector and the development of energy culture in the Greek society.
The National Association of Insulation Companies includes several members active in the field of production as well as in the area of marketing and installation of insulating materials. Over the years, have you seen an increase or decrease in professionals working in any way in your area?
"In our industry, you are seeing an increase in certified engineers, whether engineers or insurers. The purpose of the Association is to make certification a requirement for any construction so that the services offered are in accordance with the regulations"
When talking about insulating materials what kind of materials are included in this category and what kind of problems can they face?
"By insulating materials we mean all those certified products on the market that bear all the required labels such as CE, ETA etc. which according to the legislation & regulations should be applied to solve thermal insulations, partitions, energy upgrades"
According to figures, the largest number of buildings in Greece is aging. Does their maintenance require the use of more insulating materials in order to deal with problems such as humidity, energy consumption and noise, rather than a newly constructed building?
"Every case of a project is always different whether it concerns a new construction or an existing one. A study by the engineers of the project must be carried out, then the work of certified insulators must be carried out to obtain the best results. Cost is therefore a function of all these factors"
What kind of insulating material has more demand?
"Each insulation material must be applied according to the requirements of the project, always respecting the studies. It is not a matter of market demand, the choice but the suitability of the material for each project separately and of course the results we want to achieve"
In the field of know-how for production and how to place insulation materials at what level is our country in relation to other countries abroad? Are Greek insulation materials widely exported or produced mainly for internal consumption?
"We are fortunate that the Greek companies producing insulating materials are at an excellent level, have high standards of research and production and export to many foreign countries. The high technology of these materials requires a high level of know-how in their application, which is the main concern of the PSEM. The triptych study, certified materials & certified implementers is the future of the construction industry"
What are the latest trends in insulation? Are there any pioneering materials in Greece that exist abroad?
"There are a lot of innovative materials that are produced by Greek companies and then exported. Insulation trends mainly concern the application of these materials, which is governed by international regulations and certifications. In short, we need to know how to apply these innovative materials"
Insulations have a significant cost. What would you say to a consumer who is trying to limit them only to what he is required by law?
"Insulation is an investment in which the amount invested is achieved in a very short time. Our advice to the consumer is to insulate as a whole because it is technically safer and more physically efficient"
The economic crisis in our country has affected your industry?
"The crisis initially affected the market as a whole and therefore the insulation industry. However, the necessity to improve living conditions in buildings coupled with improved service offerings now, with certified implementers & products has boosted the industry which is constantly recovering by continuing to offer work to thousands of people"
Did the first program of "save a resident" give you some breath or not? What are your estimates for the results of "I save residents II"?
"In addition to the economic sentiment of the market, press-releases are mainly helping to assimilate unfamiliar terms to the general public, mainly concerning the development of energy culture. It is a huge profit through these programs to train future generations to gain energy consciousness"
Are there any problems affecting the professionals in your industry and what are they? Have you initiated moves to resolve them and what are they?
"Problems should be dealt with as a starting point for solving them to achieve something creative and beneficial to the industry. Philosophy & conviction of all members of the PSEM is that only by synergies can we solve the problems for the benefit of all"
