BLACK FRIDAY & CYBER MONDAY

You know the discounts these days, but how well do you know their history behind the name?

This time of year has come again where shopkeepers and consumers expect! The countdown has begun and everyone is anxiously looking forward! Of course, we are talking about the biggest discounts of the year, the famous Black Friday and Cyber Monday! They may be widespread in Greece in recent years, but in reality they hide history behind them. Let's go see her!

Black Friday is designated as the last Friday of November and comes from North America where it is directly associated with Thanksgiving, which is celebrated the day before. This day, in fact, marks the beginning of the festive season of Christmas shopping, connecting Thanksgiving with Santa Claus. This day concerns the offers in physical stores.

BLACK FRIDAY & CYBER MONDAY

However, there are two versions for which it is said that the well-known 'Black Friday' got its name. The most common is based on business accounting books. For the profits of the company they used black ink while for the losses they used red. For the most part, entrepreneurs reported losses throughout the year, ie red. However, the festive season brought profits and so the businesses were 'in the black'!

The second version, regarding the name, comes from the Philadelphia police authorities. Due to the congestion on the streets and the crowds that prevailed in the shops, the police could not control the people, so it was a "black" day for them!

The name Black Friday remains the same, although several attempts have been made to rename it Big Friday.

CYBER MONDAY

On the other hand, Cyber Monday, a relatively newer event, clearly concerns e-shopping and gives e-shops the opportunity to increase their profits. Consumers wanted to take advantage of Black Friday advertising opportunities, so using technology and their credit cards they could buy from wherever they were, without going to the physical store to make their purchases. Entrepreneurs then realized that this demand was going to become a trend! And so it happened! Essentially, Cyber Monday was 'born' of this need that was triggered by buyers and lasts for 24 hours. The first Monday after Black Friday is also the specific day.

The only sure thing about these two days is the big discounts that come into force, for which people wait all year to make their purchases at the best market prices. As they mark the beginning of the Christmas shopping, the shopkeepers also benefit!
