How do I paint with chalk paint?
Floor protection
The first and very important step is to protect the floor where the object to be painted is placed, in order to prevent it from getting dirty. You can do this with newspapers, nylon, cardboard or even an old sheet.
Clean the surface to be painted
Use warm soapy water and then dry it with a cloth to remove any dust that may be present.
Paint the surface with chalk paint
The paint is recommended to be in two layers. In the first layer you apply a thick layer of color as a base. Let it dry according to the instructions of the paint company. Once the paint is dry, repeat by doing the exact same process as the first coat.
Scrub with a sponge or sandpaper (Optional)
If you want to give your furniture an aged look, you will need to sand the painted surface. You do this with a slightly rough sponge or sandpaper, rubbing in one direction
This way the base color (the first layer or even the original surface of the wood) will show through to give a faded feel.
#andreoyacademy tips: Sand only the surfaces you want to look faded.
Protect the surface with varnish or wax
When the surface is dry, apply top varnish or wax. Allow the wax or varnish to dry for 24 hours and wipe the surface with a dry cloth to finish.
You can either prefer transparent wax to show off the color you have painted the furniture while protecting it, or you can prefer a dark wax, which will give an even more intense aged tone.
